Switzerland – Time for departure

*written at 2 a.m.*

Here we are! The day has come, finally! After years of dreaming, months of brainstorming, and weeks of planning, it’s finally time to go!

I would like to say we are totally ready, but in fact it is past 2 a.m. and we are still up and running around like headless chickens. I don’t even know why I am taking the time to write this. I should be getting some sleep instead, but we’re probably too excited for now.

It is hard to define how we feel. It feels like we are much less ready than when we leave on a two-week trip, although we’ve done tons of research, paperwork and general planning. I guess we are a bit overwhelmed by the expectation of those 8 months ahead, as it still sounds a bit unrealistic.

It will take us a little over 22 hours of traveling to get to Yangon in Burma/Myanmar (through Kiev and Bangkok), so we’ll have the time to drop a little tear when taking off but also loads of staring blankly at the seat in front of us, wondering what’s ahead (yep, seems like there won’t be any screens with Ukrainian Airlines).

Anyway, we’ll keep you posted on our first impressions of Myanmar!

Ready to go! Becky’s backpack is 13kg (because she’s carrying the sweets and the chocolate!), while Quentin’s 9kg because the laptop & charger are in the daypack.
